ORGANIZATION UPDATE – APRIL 2023

Dear Center State Family,

We had a wonderful season, working with our players both as individuals and as teams to help further their development.  At the same time, we encouraged our players and coaches to enjoy their time with one another both on and off the ice.  We are excited to have been building an even stronger relationship between the Morrisville men’s hockey team and their coaching staff and the Center State players and coaches.  All levels of teams benefited from the expertise and participation of Assistant Men’s Coach Andrew Veglucci and his players.  Together, they attended countless practices throughout the entire season.  We are thrilled to report that this relationship (and their participation) will continue into the 2023-2024 season, too!  What a great time to be part of Center State!

We graduated a great group of players from our 18U team and are looking forward to hearing updates from them as they continue to enjoy the sport of hockey in new ways.

2022-2023 Season Recap

  •          We had 6 teams - from Learn to Play (LTP) to Midgets (18U) - comprising 80+ players.  Squirts (10U) through Midgets (18U) all participated in the Snowbelt Hockey League along with 22 other organizations, making for very equally competitive games. The year-end Snowbelt playoffs for Center State teams continued to be paid for by our organization and not our parents, unlike many other organizations.
  •          We held 2 Learn to Play (LTP) sessions and saw our biggest numbers since pre-COVID.
  •          Our annual Mite Night/Senior Send-off and Alumni game were a big hit for everyone involved and drew large crowds.
  •          Another highlight from this season was the Center State Hockey night we had at a Buffalo Sabres game, which was incredibly well attended and included a Center State photo on center ice after the game (attached).
  •          We have a golf tournament planned for June 17th in Cazenovia, NY.  The proceeds from this help ensure we are able to keep costs reasonable for future seasons. For details, contact Josh Nettleton at fundraising@centerstatehockey.com. Keep an eye on our social media platforms for information and announcements, including registration and deadlines.
  •          We are working with our friends on the coaching staff at Morrisville to plan fall pre-season clinics starting in late August or September.  Registered Center State players will have first “dibs” on signing up!!!

2023-2024 Season

  •          Registration will open May 1st with several payment options available. Please keep an eye on your email and our website/social media for details.  Register early so you don’t miss out on these payment options!
  •          We will field teams from Mites to Midgets, as well as Learn to Play.
  •          We will be introducing a NEW 6U team to help transition families from LTP to 8U Mites.
  •          We have a qualified and enthusiastic group of coaches for every level this year.
  •          There is plenty of playing time for all players. No one rides the bench!
  •          There will be at least 2 practices and 1 home game per week at the IcePlex.
  •          Our board is committed to bringing back travel team options in future years. Our mission is to make Center State the home to some of the best youth hockey players at all levels of play while offering quality coaching, a focus on good sportsmanship, and fun for both house and travel players.
  •          Amanda Barnhart has joined our Board as Director of Youth Hockey and player development. This past season she was an instructor at both LTP and Mite levels. She brings a wealth of hockey Knowledge to us after having a successful collegiate playing career at Clarkson. We're certainly lucky to have her join us.
  •          We are still looking for a Tournament Director for the Board. If you have any interest in the position, please contact anyone on the Board!
  •          Monthly Board meetings are open to anyone who wants to attend.

The future is bright at Center State!

Sincerely,

Chip Roman, President
Center State Youth Hockey Association
